Hi Blog Friends,
So, are you "Owled" out yet? I posted a cute little printable owl gift sack freebie recently, then gave you a recipe for some homemade chocolate candies to go inside the gift sack. I have one more owl project for you. How about some owl cookies to go with all of it?
I was looking at "Owl Cookies" online and kept coming across similar photos of the same cookie... Owl Cookies from "Borough Market" in London. These cookies were shown on dozens of different people's blogs, all of them talking about the fabulous Owl Cookies from Borough Market. I searched for a recipe and didn't find one, but one of the blogs said they were shortbread cookies... and in the photos I could see they have nuts in them. I have a Pecan Shortbread recipe that I like a lot, and decided it could be adapted to a rolled cookie. So I "borrowed" the look of the cookies and made my own version.
The cookies make cute little treats when packaged individually. I used the cutouts from the previous Owl Drops post to make little tags. I layered them several different ways, and cut some different shapes with them. Quick and easy... just in time for some Fall treats!
They turned out pretty yummy, so thought I'd share them with you. If you click on the picture below, it will open as a pdf file in a new window. You need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to view and print a pdf document. If you don't have Reader, it is available as a free download on Adobe's website.
Here's the recipe:
I used Wilton's Circle Cutters (they come in a package of graduated sizes of circles - I purchased them at Wal Mart), and used the large size and the small size. Three easy steps, once you roll out the cookies and cut them:
Be sure to moisten the areas where the eyes and beak are attached. I rolled these out approximately 1/4" thick, but decided it would have been better to make them thicker so the almond "beak" can be pushed deeper into the cookie when attaching it. I had to "glue" a couple of beaks back on with frosting.
This recipe fits in the Recipe Book I mentioned in the previous post, just in time for Holiday gifts!
OK, I hope you have fun with these, please let me know if you want more printable freebies! ;)
See you soon!
:) Darcie

Was that really a question? Of course, we would love more printable freebies. They are all so cute.

These are so cute, almost too cute to eat. Just showed my husband, he told me the same thing, but sat here and made sure I printed the recipe. He remembered the pumpkin ones from last year too. I was having trouble getting the last posts to open to get the bag. I should just quit being lazy and make my own, since I do own the template. Thanks for the freebies, they sure are alot of fun. Really appreciate them, would like to see more.

These are too cute!! Pecan shortbread is my favorite so I will definitely be making these. I had no trouble printing the box from the 1st post, but the extra owl sayings and such I could only get to print small (less than 1/4 page size). Can you put a link to this again of a different kind maybe so I can try to print these again regular size? Thanks again - these cookies look great!
