Roasted Apples with Maple Whipped Cream

I thought I'd share a quick and easy, casual dessert with you.  It's not one I would fix on Thanksgiving day, but with all of our kids home for the holiday this year, it will make a yummy, warm treat for one of the other nights this weekend.

So Thankful for YOU!

I thought I'd share another quick tutorial with you....using a very versatile stamp set. This stamp set can be used to make layered flowers.... which can be used for any occasion. The flower in the photo below was made into a Fall sunflower to embellish one of my new Acrylic Shadowbox Frames.  

(The frame is ACR26 Pumpkin Shadowbox Frame if you're interested in ordering it).   The U-Cut used for the lettering background on the Pumpkin frame shown above is #UC514 - Thankful for You. 

Here's a close up of the same flower, colored as a poinsettia:

I really, really love the way these flowers look when they're all assembled.... we spritzed the one above with a Mini Mister filled with water and a scoop of Perfect Pearl (Perfect Gold).  Here's the poinsettia used on a card:

We stamped the flowers on Tim Holtz's Grunge Paper using my new stamp set, JCS128 Sunny Poinsettias:

Here's a little tutorial on how to make the flowers:

 

Darcie's Sunny Poinsettia Grunge Paper Flowers

1.  Apply a coat of Ranger's Claudine Hellmuth Gesso on a piece of Grunge Paper using a foam brush.  (This step is optional, you can also just stamp on the Grunge Paper... I like a brighter look to the flowers.)  Let dry.

2. Stamp the flower outlines on the Grunge Paper using Staz On ink.  Then use the wording stamps and the dotted background stamp to stamp on top of the flowers, as shown on the sheet below.

3.  Let dry, then cut out the images.

4.  Apply Ranger's Adirondack Pigment Inks with an Ink Blending Tool (with a foam pad) to the entire flower.  Let dry.  

5.  Apply the Adirondack Pigment ink to the back sides of the flowers also.

6.  Add touches of darker and lighter colors here and there on the flower petals.  I like to use yellow to add a touch of sunshine here and there.  Continue layering the colors as desired,  I usually give them two or three coats, letting the ink dry between coats.  This goes very quickly with the Ink Applicator tool.

7.  Roll the flower petals between your fingers to curl them under.  LOVE the grunge paper for this... so durable!

8.  Continue curling all of the flower petals under, until all layers are curled.

9.  Use Ranger's Glossy Accents to glue all the layers together.

10.  Glue the center to the flower and embellish with rhinestones, if desired.

The Metal Corners and Philosophy Tag, and the Button Acouterment are from Tim Holtz's Ideaology line...I love the way they accent this card.

Acrylic Shadowbox Ornament Tutorial

The E-Team over at Eclectic Paperie's Blog is featuring a couple of my stamp sets today, so I thought I'd give you a little tutorial on one of those stamp sets to tie in with what they are doing.

A couple of our most popular products this season have been the #ACR27 Acrylic Shadowbox Ornate Frame and #JCS131 Cardinal Ornament Static Cling Red Rubber set of stamps. Here's a photo of the ornament:

Since this ornament has been so popular, Tonya and I decided to do a little tutorial on it. The ornament can be made using my rubber stamp set (shown above) or with this U-Cut:

The U-Cut number is #UC520 and it retails for $1.39.  You will need two of the U-Cuts to make the ornament, as the ornament is double sided.  We used the U-Cut for the tutorial. Here's the tutorial:

Cardinal Ornament Instructions

NOTE:  If you want to attach a hanging jewel to the bottom of the ornament as shown above, read Step 24 FIRST.

1.  Cut out the images, cutting two of each image.  (The ornament is double sided so that when it spins around on the tree, both sides are the same).

2. Use Tim Holtz's Distress Inks and an Inkssentials Blending Tool with a Foam Pad to add a little color to the edges of each cutout.  We used the following Distress Inks:  Tea Dye and Vintage Photo on the Frame and Joyeux Noel inset.  Shabby Shutters on the green leaves.  Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick and Rusty Hinge on the flowers and cardinal (the Rusty Hinge is for the cardinal's beak).

 

4.  Fill a Ranger Mini Mister with water (don't fill it completely full).  Add 4 drops Vintage Photo and a small scoop of Perfect Pearls (Perfect Gold color).  Spritz the background with the mixture.

5.  Dry the background with a heat tool.  (I LOVE Ranger's Heat It Tool, just the perfect temperature for everything... and quiet also).

6.  Apply permanent adhesive to one side of one of the chipboard frame pieces.

7.  Attach the background to the chipboard frame piece.  Turn this piece over and repeat Step 6 and 7 for the other side of the chipboard frame piece.

8.  Apply adhesive one a second piece of chipboard frame.

9.  Attach the frame (the one you just applied adhesive to) on top of the background as shown below.  Turn the frame over and repeat Step 8 and 9 for the other side of the frame. 

10.  Lay one of the U-Cut frame pieces (or stamped frame if you're using stamps to make the ornament) face down.  Place the ornament (The 3 chipboard pieces with the background that are now attached together) on top of the U-Cut.  Use a pencil to mark the hole on the back side of the U-Cut frame.

11.  Repeat Step 10 for the other U-Cut frame piece to mark the hole.

12.  Punch out the holes that you marked in Steps 10 and 11.

13.  Apply permanent adhesive on top of the chipboard frame as shown below.

14.  Attach the U-Cut frame to the chipboard.  Repeat Steps 13 and 14 for the other side of the ornament.

15.  Add a few iridescent mica chips or iridescent shreds to the inside of the frame.  (Glitter doesn't work well as it tends to leak out of the ornament after it is assembled and sticks to the inside of the acrylic).  If you're interested in purchasing the shreds, we are now stocking them).  (Call 1-800-945-3980 if you're interested in ordering any of the products in this post).

16.  Remove the blue or clear film backing from both sides of the acrylic.  Repeat for the other piece of acrylic.

17.  Lay one acrylic piece on top of the ornament.  Carefully pick up the ornament and turn it over, keeping all of the pieces aligned.  Repeat this step for the other side of the ornament.

18.  Use a set of needle nose pliers to attach the frame clips.  (It's easier on the fingers to use the pliers, the fit is snug).

19.  Repeat step 18 with the other 3 clips. 

20.  Apply double sided foam mounting tape to the back side of the embellishment images.

21.  Attach the images to the outsides of the frame.

22.  We attached a ribbon loop to the top of the ornament to hang it from the tree. Cut a piece of ribbon to approximately 18".  Cut one end of the ribbon to a long narrow point.  

23.  Thread the ribbon through the ornament, tie a knot above the ornament.  Tie a bow at the top of the ribbon, as shown below.

24.  Another option on these ornaments is add additional hanging jewels to the ornament. If you want to hang embellishments or jewels from the ornaments, you will need to punch additional holes using a Big Bite Cropadile.  Punch the holes before you start the project. Mark the placement of the hole on each piece of chipboard and acrylic piece individually, and punch each hole using the Big Bite.

Darcie's Club

Last year I posted information on our "Darcie's Club" program.  I thought I'd show you projects from the most recent shipment, which shipped yesterday.  Darcie's Club is an automatic shipment program. Every other month Club members receive a shipment of brand new merchandise at approximately 40% discount from retail prices.  Here are the projects that are included in the current shipment:

The shipment contains everything you need to make the projects shown on the sheet above.  

Every shipment also contains a set of rubber stamps.  The stamps are either Clear Polymer or Static Cling Red Rubber sets.  Here's a photo of the images from the current shipment:

You are able to make five different sizes of gift bags using the patterns included with the template.  One of the gift bags is a featured project, which means the shipment includes everything you need to make the gift bag.  Here's a photo of the gift bag:

Pretty cute way to package some homemade goodies or little gifts, huh?

The Hexagon box was made using this Jumbo U-Cut, also included in the shipment:

These Jumbo U-Cuts are printed on a 12" x 18" sheet of 80 lb. card stock.  Basically you just cut them out, score, and glue or tape together.  These are a great way to create unique packaging for your handmade gifts.

This card is pretty quick and easy also.  Just stamp the wording on the pale blue card stock, stamp the peacock with a variety of inks, and stamp the saying on a piece of darker blue card stock and you're done.  With each shipment we also include a large sheet of "U-Cuts" for each project, so that you can use the stamps to complete the project.... or the U-Cuts.  Here's an example of the printed U-Cut for this particular project:

If you prefer to use these printed images to make the projects, it makes it amazingly simple.... we even print the images to shape to save you the time of figuring out measurements, etc.

Hey Blog Friends,

I'm back from my trip and it's back to work for me!  We had a ton of fun visiting our son in Hawaii... I thought I'd share a couple of quick photos from our trip.  Check out his backyard:

Yup, I could get used to that view every day.  Sooo pretty.

This was my favorite thing to do each day:

(His back yard again). Ahhhh!  Although by about the third day I was having some serious crafting withdrawals!

Here's what Dan found on the beach one night:

To put this photo in perspective.... my husband is a BIG guy.  That was one HUGE turtle. The ocean behind our son's house was full of turtles, amazing tropical fish (I wish I knew all the names of them!), and we even saw a couple of seahorses.  

The Banzai Pipeline kicked up one of the days while we were there, and we were able to witness some BIG waves.  

Sorry that one is grainy.... I took it with my phone as I forgot my camera that day.  I guess in December the waves can be as big as 60 foot... the ones we saw were about 25' to 30'.  I can't even imagine 60' waves!
