I'm guardedly optimistic that my brand new website may be able to be activated sometime this next week...along with a "Grand Opening" sale, but I'm not getting my hopes up until I see it's actually COMPLETE. I've been trying to patiently wait for it to be completed, but definitely getting antsy and tired of waiting! Fingers, toes, everything crossed!
To coordinate with the Grand Opening of my new website and after such a long blog hiatus, I decided to do a bunch of giveaways for a bunch of days in December...how's that for specific?! ;) Here's how it will work.... I'll be posting projects and/or giveaways at midnight numerous days this month. You'll have 24 hours to make comments, and I'll draw a name the following day. Then you'll have 24 hours to claim your prize. If you miss claiming it.... it goes back in the pot and you'll miss out, so be sure to check often this month.
I recently purchased Tim Holtz's Sizzix rosette dies and have been playing around with them. {Annnnd basically using them on everything imaginable!}. Over the next week, I thought I'd share a few of the Christmas ornaments I made with the dies. Today's ornament includes a free printable pennant background for you. It will work for Christmas, Spring or any season.
Here's photos of the variations I made using the little pennant background, the rosettes, and my tin pins:
Super duper simple.... print the pennants and the printable vintage crackles background page, glue them to chipboard, make the rosettes and attach a tin pin and jewels. Here's the printables (click on the picture below, it will open in a new window and you can print it... or you can also download them in a pdf format HERE and HERE:
And here's the printable vintage crackle background you can use to attach to the back side of the pennants:
Here's the simple step by step instructions:
Darcie's Pennant Ornaments
Supply List
• Sizzix Sizzlits Mini Paper Rosettes Die
• Die Cutting Machine - I used my Cuttlebug... {Tim's Vagabond Electric Die Cutting machine is definitely on my wish list!}
• Spray Adhesive
• Printed card stock of your choice (I used papers from my paper line, the item numbers and paper swatches are shown below).
• Tinsel Garland for the hangers
• Fishing Line for attaching the jewels
• Acrylic beads and gems of your choice
• Chunky silver glitter
• Ranger's Glue and Seal
• Darcie's Tin Pins - DHD16 Winter Wishes
• EK Success 1 1/4" scalloped circle punch
1. Print out the pennant fronts and pennant back pages onto 80 lb. Bright White Card Stock. Use spray adhesive to attach the pages to the front and back of a sheet of chipboard. {For instructions on how to use the spray adhesive, refer to the directions on the can}.
2. Use a Ranger Craft Mat Scraper to burnish the front and back printed pages onto the chipboard to fully adhere the pages.
3. Cut out the pennants. You can either cut them with scissors or cut them with a paper cutter.
4. Use Distress Ink (Vintage Photo) to add a vintage look to the edges of the pennants. Apply it to the front and back sides of the pennants, all the way around the edges.
5. Use a Crop-a-dile Big Bite hole punch to punch holes in the pennants. Be sure to punch a hole in the bottom of the pennant if you want to attach a jewel to the bottom of the ornament.
6. Assemble the rosettes according to the instructions included with the dies. I used hot glue to glue the rosettes into a circular shape and used hot glue to attach the rosette centers to them.
7. Apply Ranger's Glue and Seal to the edges of the rosettes using the brush inside the cap. (Sorry, I don't have photos of these steps, this is where my camera quit working.)
8. Pour the chunky silver glitter onto a paper plate. Roll the edges of the rosettes in the glitter. Set aside to dry.
9. Use hot glue to attach the rosettes to the center of the pennant. Punch a scalloped circle and apply Distress Ink to the edges of the scallops. Glue the scalloped circle to the center of the rosettes. Use hot glue to attach one of my tin pins to the center of the punched scallop. Attach a piece of tinsel garland to the top of the pennant, tying each end in a knot on the back side of the pennant. Use fishing line to attach the jewels and beads to the bottom of the pennant.
Here's sample swatches of my papers I used on the projects. {These were all made from 12" x 18" printed card stock}.
And here's the set of my Tin Pins I used for the centers:
I love the dimension and shine these tin pins give the ornaments! I have to admit I'm pretty addicted to these little guys.... so much fun! If you'd like to win this set of FREE tin pins, be sure to place a comment on this post before midnight on Wednesday, December 15th.... I'll be choosing a winner on Thursday, December 16. The winner will have until midnight December 17 to claim their prize. Easy peasy, but you gotta check back!
I hope all of your holiday shopping, celebrations and Christmas fun is well underway. I'll be back soon with more goodies for you!
:) Darcie
